Bedeutender englischer Uhrmacher und Erfinder des 18.Jhdt.

Eine tickende Uhr in einem doppelten, nicht gestochenen Uhrengehäuse, deren Ticken wird man kaum hören. In einem einzelnen ungestochenem Uhrgehäuse wird man das Geräusch sehr gut hören können. Diese Art von Uhr führe ich generell für Gentlemen aus und schützt das Werk vor Staub. Sie werden durch das Ziffernblatt aufgezogen. Das Loch wird an der zwölften Stunde angebracht und da sie leichter als Eschenholz sind, werden sie in einem doppelten Uhrengehäuse weniger Schaden bei einem Fall davontragen. Es gibt keine Notwendigkeit für Chagrinleder über dem Gold um das Werk zu schützen, es dient nur zum Schutz des Goldgehäuses.

Der Preis einer solchen Uhr wie dieser, mit einem emaillierten Ziffernblatt beträgt 69 Pfund Sterling. Das emaillieren wird sowohl in die Tiefe gehend, als auch dahingehend ausgeführt, dass es eine glatte Oberfläche schafft....

A repeating watch in double cases not pierced, the sound will scarcely be heard. In a single case unpierced the sound will be heard very well. This sort is what I generally make for Gentlemen, and best preserves the work from dust. They are wound up through the dial-plate, the hole being made at the hour of twelve; and being lighter than eshen in double cases will receive less damage by a fall. There is no necessitiy for a Shagreen Case over the Gold one for the preservation of the work, it´s only of use for preserving the Gold case. The price of such a watch as this with an enamelled dial-plate will be 69 pounds sterling. The enamelling is as well done pore as at parity and cannot be done there without being put into the hands of a Watchmaker, nor can the two [...] be fitted as they ought to be till after the plate is enamelled; and if this is not done with care it may hurt the performance of the watch, which is a hazard I would not venture.
